Some places live up to the photos.

The Ha Giang Loop somehow manages to exceed them.

After spending weeks editing our vlog, I've come to one conclusion: no matter how many videos or photos we took, they still don't do this place justice. The mountains are bigger, the valleys are deeper, the roads are more dramatic, and the experience is so much more emotional than any camera can capture.

If you're planning a trip to Vietnam and wondering whether the Ha Giang Loop is worth it, here's our complete experience.

Why We Flew to Vietnam

My husband and I flew to Vietnam for one reason: to experience the famous Ha Giang Loop.

Vietnam has always been on our bucket list because of its breathtaking landscapes, incredible food, and culture that still feels simple and authentic. Every travel video we watched showed endless mountain roads winding through towering limestone peaks, but we couldn't help wondering if it was really as beautiful as everyone claimed.

It turns out... it was even better.

We visited in June. While it's one of the hottest months of the year, it also meant fewer tourists compared to the peak season between October and December. Looking back, we wouldn't change our timing. The weather was warm, but the roads and viewpoints never felt overcrowded.

For our adventure, we booked a 3-day, 2-night Easy Rider tour with Ha Giang Go. Since neither of us wanted the stress of navigating unfamiliar mountain roads, having experienced local riders meant we could simply sit back, enjoy the scenery, and fully immerse ourselves in the journey.

Our First Stop: Hanoi

We landed in Hanoi at around two o'clock in the morning.

One of the first things that surprised us was how quiet the roads were. If you've seen videos of Hanoi traffic, you'll know the city is famous for its sea of motorbikes. But at that hour, the streets were almost empty, making the ride to our Airbnb peaceful.

After a short walk through quiet streets, we finally reached our accommodation.

Nothing fancy.

Just a cozy place to rest before the adventure truly began.

The next morning, we explored Hanoi's Old Quarter.

Our First Bowl of Pho

Our first meal in Vietnam had to be pho.

Warm, comforting, packed with fresh herbs, and incredibly flavorful, it instantly reminded us why Vietnamese cuisine is loved all over the world. Sometimes the simplest meals become some of the most memorable.

Hanoi's Organized Chaos

One thing we'll never forget is Hanoi's traffic.

Coming from the Philippines, I thought Manila traffic was already intense.

Then Hanoi politely said, "Hold my helmet."

Thousands of motorbikes seemed to flow through every intersection from every direction. Somehow everyone avoided crashing into each other without traffic lights controlling every movement.

It looked chaotic.

But somehow...

It worked.

After spending the afternoon wandering around the Old Quarter and enjoying one last dinner in the city, it was finally time to head north.

Taking the Sleeper Bus to Ha Giang

That evening, we boarded the overnight sleeper bus to Ha Giang.

If you've never tried one before, it's definitely an experience.

Instead of regular seats, everyone has their own reclining sleeping compartment.

One tip we'd give future travelers: don't sleep too deeply.

The drivers don't always announce every stop, and passengers quietly get on and off throughout the night. Keeping an eye on your phone's GPS every now and then is a good idea.

Even so, the journey was smooth, and we arrived safely in Ha Giang the following morning.

Day One: The Adventure Finally Begins

After breakfast, everyone gathered for a quick orientation.

Our guides explained the route, safety procedures, and what to expect over the next three days.

It finally started to feel real.

Soon we met the rest of our group, people from different countries who would become our little travel family for the next few days.

Before leaving, we stored our larger luggage at the hostel.

Trust us.

You don't want to carry your entire suitcase on the back of a motorbike while riding mountain roads for three days.

Then it was time.

Helmets on.

Engines started.

The Ha Giang Loop had officially begun.

Waterfalls, Mountain Roads, and Endless Views

Within minutes, the scenery completely changed.

The city disappeared behind us, replaced by winding mountain roads, towering limestone cliffs, and endless green valleys.

Our first stop was a small waterfall.

After riding under the hot June sun for nearly an hour, the cool mist felt incredibly refreshing.

It wasn't even one of the famous attractions, but that's one of the things we loved most about the Ha Giang Loop.

Even the "small" stops were beautiful.

Later, we stopped at one of the viewpoints with a giant Vietnamese flag overlooking the mountains.

Standing there made me realize something.

The best trips aren't always about collecting destinations.

Sometimes they're about slowing down enough to appreciate exactly where you are.

Family-Style Lunch

Lunch was served family style.

Rice.

Fresh vegetables.

Tofu.

Spring rolls.

Several local dishes shared around one table.

The food reminded us so much of home. Simple, comforting, and absolutely delicious.

After an entire morning on the motorbike, every bite tasted even better.

Ending Day One at Du Gia Waterfall

One of the highlights of our first day was Du Gia Waterfall.

After hours of riding through the mountains, jumping into the cool water felt like the perfect reward.

The main swimming area was quite busy, but our adorable young local guide, Dong, led us to a quieter spot higher up the waterfall.

Best decision ever.

It felt peaceful, relaxing, and gave us a chance to simply enjoy nature away from the crowd.

Before returning to our homestay, we explored the nearby village, where we bought fresh sugarcane with citrus from a roadside stall.

Funny how the simplest snacks become unforgettable after a full day of adventure.

Happy Water and New Friends

That evening, everyone gathered for dinner.

It was finally time to try Vietnam's famous Happy Water.

Happy Water is a traditional rice wine often shared during meals.

One shot and everyone starts smiling.

Two shots and suddenly people from different countries are singing together like lifelong friends.

One of the things we loved most about the Ha Giang Loop wasn't just the scenery.

It was the people.

Day Two: Every Corner Was a Postcard

If day one introduced us to the mountains, day two completely blew us away.

Every corner revealed another breathtaking view.

Every few minutes someone in our group would ask the riders to stop because we simply couldn't believe what we were seeing.

At some point, I stopped reaching for my camera every few minutes.

Instead, I just wanted to experience it.

Along the way, we passed villages where locals continue to produce textiles using hemp, preserving traditions that have been passed down through generations.

One of the biggest highlights of the day was the famous Nho Que River.

Its emerald-green water flowing between towering cliffs almost looked unreal.

Photos are beautiful.

Being there in person is unforgettable.

That evening, we stayed in Dong Van.

Compared to the quieter villages we'd passed through earlier, Dong Van felt lively and energetic.

After dinner, we walked around town, played a few games of pool, chatted with our new friends, and enjoyed what would be our last full evening together.

Day Three: Ma Pi Leng Pass

The final morning was bittersweet.

Half of our group had booked the four-day tour, so this was where we said our goodbyes.

It's funny how people you've only known for two days can already feel like close friends.

The highlight of our final day was Ma Pi Leng Pass.

Every viewpoint seemed impossible to top.

Then we'd ride around another corner...

And somehow the view became even more spectacular.

Massive limestone mountains stretched endlessly into the distance while the road carved its way through one of the most dramatic landscapes we've ever seen.

Without question, it was one of the most beautiful roads we've ever traveled.

Thank You to Our Easy Riders

Before ending the trip, we wanted to thank our Easy Riders.

They weren't just drivers.

They became our guides, photographers, translators, entertainers, and protectors throughout the journey.

Many sections of the Ha Giang Loop are narrow, steep, and full of sharp bends.

Yet not once did we feel unsafe.

Because they handled every kilometer with incredible skill and care, we were able to focus entirely on enjoying the scenery.

We're genuinely grateful for everything they did to make this experience unforgettable.

Final Thoughts

Three days passed far more quickly than we expected.

For those three days, life felt wonderfully simple.

No deadlines.

No emails.

No endless notifications.

Just mountain roads, fresh air, breathtaking landscapes, and the excitement of discovering what waited around the next corner.

I thought I'd remember this trip because of the views.

But what stayed with me even more were the people we met, the conversations we shared, the laughter around dinner, and those quiet moments sitting on the back of the bike while the mountains rolled by.

Even after spending weeks editing our video, I still don't think it fully captures what it feels like to experience the Ha Giang Loop.

Some places simply have to be seen with your own eyes.

If you're planning a trip to Vietnam, don't skip Ha Giang.

It may just become one of the most unforgettable adventures of your life.
